(Binghamton, NY • October 7, 2019) The 18th Annual Jim “Mudcat” Grant All-Star Golf Tournament scored big in support of the Broome County Urban League, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Binghamton, CHOW and Catholic Charities of Broome County, as well as for local veterans.

“From perfect weather, to an all-star roster of guest celebrities, to an outstanding group of loyal, generous sponsors and volunteers, this year’s Tournament was one of our best yet,” said Security Mutual Life Chairman, President and CEO Bruce W. Boyea. “Our players are not only legends in sports and entertainment, they are also legends in life who recognize the importance of helping children and families and are passionate about giving back. And it’s not just our celebrities who are champions—it’s also the people at the Broome County Urban League, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Binghamton, CHOW and Catholic Charities, who each day bring their best to the children and families they serve.”

“It is an honor to be here to represent the four amazing organizations,” said Boys and Girls Clubs of Binghamton Director Marybeth Smith. “And it’s because of some wonderful people that we are able to continue our work and to do even more things and better things . . . We couldn’t do it without you. We are so thankful. When we’re on our own, we do great work. When we work together, it’s outstanding.”

In addition, a separate fundraising event was held during the tournament to help provide housing for local veterans. The funds raised help support the veteran housing unit in Binghamton and provide a home for one of the residents throughout the next year. Boyea saluted participants’ outstanding generosity, noting that this year’s contributions topped the amount raised last year.

“Let me start out by saying thank you,” said Binghamton Mayor Richard David. “This money goes a long way in making sure that these invaluable organizations are able to keep their doors open to provide valuable services for our youth, our seniors and families not only across the City of Binghamton, but across Broome County and beyond. I really want to thank you for adding the veterans’ causes to this particular tournament. What these funds go towards is helping pay the rent for those who have served our country with distinction. I know this will go a long way, and I know the men and women at that facility are grateful for the support . . .”

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar praised the four nonprofit organizations for the work they do every day helping people in our community. “It’s not really a 9 to 5 job. They’re doing that because they care about this community. Where would we be without the great support of our wonderful community and great businesses like this? On behalf of Broome County . . . thank you so much.

“Unfortunately, Jim ‘Mudcat’ Grant couldn’t attend this year’s event due to medical reasons, but he is thrilled with this year’s Tournament results, and he is going to do everything he can to be here next year,” said Boyea. “On Mudcat’s behalf, I salute the guest celebrities, sponsors, donors and volunteers, as well as the organizations the Tournament helps support. It is truly an honor to be part of this event and to see how much we can accomplish together.”

Since its inception in 2002, the Tournament has raised more than $630,000 for the benefiting charitable organizations.
