John W. Jonassen Joins Security Mutual Life as Senior Vice President, Chief Underwriter

Security Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York is pleased to announce that John W. Jonassen, FALU, FLMI®, ACS®, has joined the Company as Senior Vice President, Chief Underwriter.

Mr. Jonassen will oversee Security Mutual’s underwriting and new business functions. He has extensive experience in underwriting, as well as in product development, process design, strategic planning, customer interface, and team building and mentoring. Prior to joining Security Mutual, Mr. Jonassen served as vice president of strategy and underwriting operations at EMSI Insurance. While at EMSI, he also served as chief underwriter for four life insurance carriers. Mr. Jonassen began his career as an underwriting consultant for The Hartford Life Insurance Company, going on to serve as a senior underwriting consultant with Crump Life Insurance Services, followed by serving as chief underwriter for Diversified Brokerage Services, Inc.

A graduate of Minnesota State University, Mr. Jonassen earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration with emphasis on finance. He served as treasurer of the Twin Cities Association of Home Office Underwriters, is a former member of LifeMark Underwriting Committee and a Brokerage Underwriting Forum Leader.
