(Binghamton, NY • June 11, 2019) Alongside the 150+ vibrant red flower baskets now adorning Binghamton, this week visitors to the city will see Security Mutual’s blue and white flag flying at City Hall, as well as along Court Street. The flags are in honor of Security Mutual Week, which Binghamton Mayor Richard C. David proclaimed on Monday in recognition of the company’s many contributions to Greater Binghamton.

Raising Security Mutual’s flag “is a token and a symbol recognizing all of the wonderful things . . . that the company and employees do for not only the City of Binghamton, but the entire region,” said Mayor David. He went on to praise Security Mutual as one of the oldest businesses in the City of Binghamton, noting that not only is the company headquartered and anchored in Downtown Binghamton, but that it also continues to find new ways to give back to the community. The mayor recognized Security Mutual’s diverse contributions, from helping provide the flower baskets that add so much beauty to the city throughout the summer, to raising significant sums of money for a number of nonprofit organizations that help people in need in Greater Binghamton.

Security Mutual Life Chairman, President and CEO Bruce W. Boyea thanked the mayor, saying: “You have no idea how much it means to us for you to declare Security Mutual Week here in the great City of Binghamton. We were formed right here in Binghamton in 1886, which means we are going to be 133 years old this November, and we are very proud to have Binghamton as the location of our Home Office.”

This week, Security Mutual is welcoming about 100 of its top field associates from across the country to Binghamton for an advanced educational seminar. During the three-day event, Security Mutual provides intensive training in the tools, techniques and technologies for helping business owners, professionals and families plan a more secure future for themselves and the people they care about. “Security Mutual is The Company That Cares℠, and helping people protect their financial future rests at the heart of what we do every day,” said Boyea.

“Another example of Security Mutual’s caring,” continued Boyea, “is the Sock Out Cancer™ program, which Security Mutual formed in 2017 and is already in three states and eleven hospitals.” The program assists financially distressed cancer patients and their families pay for non-medical necessities such as food, transportation and housing so patients can focus their energy on fighting cancer. The Sock Out Cancer logo—a pair of multi-hued socks—symbolizes the fight against cancer in all its forms.”

In addition to its work with Sock Out Cancer, Security Mutual will also be presenting the 18th annual Jim “Mudcat” Grant All-Star Golf Tournament. The event takes place on August 29 and benefits four local charitable organizations, as well as local veteran housing programs.

“Through our products and services, as well as through the many ways we give back, it’s all about the people that we’re helping,” concluded Boyea, “and we are honored to raise Security Mutual’s flag over Binghamton City Hall.”

Sock Out Cancer, LLC, is wholly owned by the Security Mutual Life Foundation, which is a New York 501(c)(3) public charity.
