In celebration of National Wear Red Day®, Security Mutual Life joined with the American Heart Association to help promote American Heart Month and will illuminate its headquarters in downtown Binghamton RED on Friday, February 3.

Celebrated each year on the first Friday in February, National Wear Red Day® is in its 19th year with the main goal of bringing greater awareness of heart disease and the steps you can take to protect your heart. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, especially for women. It is important to know that a few simple lifestyle changes such as eating for heart health, striving for 30 minutes of physical activity a day and not smoking will aid in protecting your heart from cardiovascular disease.

“National Wear Red Day® is a visual reminder, bringing communities together to learn more about heart disease and what each of us can do to protect our heart health,” said Kirk Gravely, President and Chief Executive Officer of Security Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York. “We are proud to once again join with the American Heart Association in promoting National Wear Red Day® and American Heart Month. We continue our long-standing support of this event and sharing the many ways people can be a champion of their own heart health.”

The AHA’s website provides many resources for education, tips, and videos on topics such as managing stress; increasing physical activity; connecting with community and caregiver support, just to highlight a few.

In addition to lighting the Company’s building RED, Security Mutual Life is a sponsor of the Southern Tier Heart Walk being held on Sunday, April 23, at Otsiningo Park and will be promoting Company fundraising events that benefit the American Heart Association and its programs.
